Your Chiropractic Care Process at Expressed Health

1

Consultation

We start by listening. Your doctor discusses your symptoms, health history, lifestyle, concerns, and goals to better understand what may be affecting your movement and function.

2

Examination

Your doctor performs a focused chiropractic examination that may include posture, range of motion, orthopedic, neurological, and functional testing to identify areas of dysfunction.

3

X-Rays & Clinical Findings

When clinically appropriate, X-rays may be taken or ordered to evaluate spinal structure, alignment, degeneration, previous injury, or other findings that may affect your care.

4

Personalized Care Recommendations

Your examination and imaging findings are reviewed with you, and your doctor recommends a personalized care approach based on your specific needs, goals, and clinical presentation.

5

Treatment & Progress Evaluation

As care progresses, your doctor monitors your response, movement, function, and symptoms and modifies your treatment recommendations when appropriate.

6

Chiropractic Adjustment

When our findings warrant it, a specific chiropractic adjustment is delivered to the appropriate area with the goal of restoring function and reducing neurological interference associated with a subluxation.

What Is a Chiropractic Adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment is a specific, controlled force applied to a joint of the spine or another area of the body to improve joint motion, function, and mobility. At Expressed Health Spine & Wellness Center, the goal is not simply to make something “pop.” The skill of chiropractic begins with determining whether an adjustment is needed, where it should be delivered, and which technique is most appropriate for that individual patient.

Within chiropractic, a vertebral subluxation refers to a condition in which a vertebra has lost its proper juxtaposition or functional relationship with the vertebra above or below it. This altered alignment or movement may create mechanical stress or irritation around the surrounding joints and associated nerve tissue. At Expressed Health, our chiropractic philosophy is that when our examination identifies a subluxation, a specific chiropractic adjustment may be used to help correct the misalignment, reduce pressure or irritation on the corresponding nerve, restore proper joint function, and support more normal nerve communication to the area supplied by that nerve. Our goal is not simply to adjust where a patient hurts, but to identify where neurological and biomechanical interference may be occurring and address it as specifically as possible.

We want you to understand what we are evaluating, what we found, why an adjustment may or may not be recommended, and what options you have. Questions are encouraged. We believe patients should actively participate in their healthcare rather than simply being told what to do.

01

Joint Movement

Healthy joints are designed to move. When a spinal or extremity joint becomes restricted or is not moving appropriately, it can affect surrounding muscles, movement patterns, and how the body responds to everyday activity.

A chiropractic adjustment applies a specific force to the appropriate joint with the goal of improving its motion and mechanical function.

02

Spinal Function

The spine does more than provide structure. It protects the spinal cord and plays an important role in movement and the interaction between the musculoskeletal and nervous systems.

Our doctors evaluate spinal motion, posture, movement patterns, neurological findings, and other clinical indicators to determine whether spinal dysfunction or a chiropractic subluxation may be contributing to the patient's presentation.

The objective is to improve how the spine functions, not simply chase the area that hurts.

03

Mobility

Restriction in one area can influence movement elsewhere in the body. Chiropractic adjustments may be used alongside stretching, therapeutic exercise, mobility work, and other conservative therapies to improve overall movement and function.

Whether your goal is getting through the workday more comfortably, returning to the gym, playing with your children, competing in sports, or simply moving with greater confidence, we evaluate your care in the context of what you need your body to do.

Move Better. Live Better. Be Expressed.

04

Different Adjustment Techniques

Our doctors may use different hands-on or instrument-assisted approaches depending on your examination findings, age, body type, health history, comfort level, pregnancy status, injury history, and treatment goals.

Some adjustments involve a quick, controlled movement. Others use considerably lighter forces. The presence or absence of a “pop” does not determine whether an adjustment was successful.

The goal is always specificity, appropriateness, and function — not force for the sake of force.

05

Individualized Treatment

At Expressed Health, care is individualized. We do not believe every person should receive the same adjustment or automatically follow the same treatment schedule.

Your doctor considers your consultation, examination, functional findings, health history, goals, and imaging when clinically appropriate before recommending care.

Sometimes the appropriate decision is to adjust. Sometimes additional evaluation, imaging, modification of technique, referral, or simply not adjusting that day is the better decision.

That is part of our open-practice philosophy: you should understand what we found, what we recommend, and why.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most chiropractic adjustments are well tolerated and are not intended to be painful. You may feel pressure, stretching, or a quick movement during an adjustment, and some patients experience temporary soreness afterward, particularly when an area is already irritated.

If something is uncomfortable, tell your doctor. Technique, positioning, and force can often be modified based on your condition and tolerance.

Yes. Children can be evaluated for chiropractic care, but pediatric chiropractic is not simply an adult adjustment performed on a smaller person.

The examination, technique, positioning, and amount of force are modified according to the child’s age, size, development, clinical findings, and comfort. A parent or legal guardian is involved in the decision-making and informed-consent process.

Yes. Chiropractic care may be appropriate during pregnancy following an individualized evaluation. As pregnancy progresses, positioning and adjustment techniques can be modified to accommodate changes in the patient’s body and comfort.

Expressed Health also provides prenatal chiropractic care utilizing the Webster Technique when appropriate. The ICPA defines Webster as a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment focused on sacral and pelvic neuro-biomechanical function; it is not intended as a technique for turning a breech baby.

Chiropractic care may be appropriate for certain musculoskeletal complaints following a motor vehicle accident, including neck pain, back pain, stiffness, restricted movement, and other injury-related symptoms.

Because every collision is different, we first evaluate the accident history, symptoms, neurological and orthopedic findings, movement, and function. Imaging or referral for additional evaluation may be recommended when clinically appropriate before an adjustment is performed.

Wear something comfortable that allows you to move easily. Athletic clothing, loose-fitting clothes, leggings, shorts, or similar clothing generally work well.

You do not need to dress a special way just to see the chiropractor. If an examination or imaging procedure requires anything different, our team will guide you.

Possibly — but an adjustment is never automatic.

Your first visit begins with understanding your history, concerns, and goals, followed by the appropriate examination. When the findings indicate that an adjustment is appropriate and there are no reasons to delay care, treatment may begin on the first visit.

If your doctor needs imaging, additional information, or time to review your findings before determining the safest and most appropriate approach, your adjustment may occur at a subsequent visit.

Our philosophy is simple: we would rather give you the right adjustment at the right time than rush an adjustment simply because you walked through the door.

X-rays are not automatically required for every chiropractic patient at Expressed Health. Your doctor determines whether imaging is clinically appropriate based on factors such as your history, examination findings, trauma, symptoms, age, previous conditions, and other clinical considerations.

When X-rays are needed, they can provide additional information about spinal structure and help identify findings that could influence whether, where, or how we adjust.

Within chiropractic, you may hear the term vertebral subluxation. At Expressed Health, we evaluate these relationships between the spine, movement, biomechanics, and nervous system function as part of the overall clinical picture.

There is no universal chiropractic schedule that is right for everyone.

Frequency depends on your examination findings, condition, goals, how long the problem has been present, your activity level, and how you respond to care. Your recommendations may also change as your function improves.

At Expressed Health, treatment plans are findings-driven rather than based on a predetermined number of visits. We explain our recommendations, monitor your progress, and adjust the plan when appropriate.

Patients who choose to continue with wellness care after addressing an initial concern are encouraged to do so in order to maintain optimal performance and well-being!

Many health insurance plans include chiropractic benefits, but coverage varies considerably by insurance company and individual policy.

Benefits may include limitations such as copays, deductibles, visit limits, authorization requirements, or restrictions on certain services. Our team can help review available benefits and explain your options before care.

Expressed Health also provides options for patients who choose to use self-pay, HSA, or FSA funds rather than insurance.

Regardless of how care is paid for, our goal remains the same: recommend care based on your clinical findings and individual needs — not solely on what an insurance plan will or will not cover.
